I’ve been back in Copenhagen for a little less than two weeks now and thought I should give an update about current happenings. Last Thursday was the start of classes at DIS and the beginning of my second semester. It's somewhat eerie to be back but be without so many of my friends and somewhat depressing to search for familiar faces at the tables and realize there are only a few. They've changed the main desk around so now it's located downstairs and through a door that was never used before. I can't yet decide how I feel about this alteration.
After the first 2 class days it was Friday night and time for the DIS party at LUUX club. It was interesting to say the least. This new DIS crew seems some what more wild than last semester's but perhaps this is due to the increased number of students. I stayed over at my friend's place which is located way closer to CPH then my home and was something we both did a lot last semester with one of our other friend's.
The next day (after getting an obligatory pastry) we went to the Black Diamond, part of the Royal Library, to see a photo exhibit of works by Jacob Riis. I was really glad to get a chance to see it before it closed the next day. I believe this has been one of the only exhibits of his works outside of the US. We also went to the exhibit next door because it cautioned us that "Use of the exhibit's swings was at the visitor's own risk." which was an invitation for us to enter. It dealt with ideas on imagination, reality and truth and for some reason had a bunch of swings set up. The whole exhibit was in the dark and you had to peak into display boxes and could sit on the swings which were illuminated by red lights. My favorite part was watching the Danes go on the swings. I'm almost positive that adults in the US would not partake in such an activity.
That evening I had dinner with my host mom, her daughter and her children (my host mom's grandchildren). It was fun to be back with them and be able to have a family type meal. At one point, one of the boys was upset and started to "threaten" his mother by saying "I am getting VERY close to taking all of my clothes off!" (it was in Danish at the time, but she translated it to me while trying to keep from laughing). I'm pretty sue this is one of the best children's threats I've ever heard.
On Sunday, DIS hosted an event for full-year students: BOWLING! While I've realized my ability to bowl is very, very sad, I did meet some other full-year students that I vaguely knew or knew through others. Since we aren't as lost as all the other students, we might find ourselves sticking together since we've already been through the "getting-used-to-Denmark" phase. Either way they were fun and now I know a few more people.
Anyway classes seem fun so far and I'll also be doing a work study in the library this semester so I should be rather busy. But at least this way I can make back a small amount of money and not rely completely on my poor depleted savings account. haha
I promise to post about London next time but I'm currently at DIS right now and talking about London without any photos just won't be any fun.
Vi ses!
