Travel Break!

Greetings! Today is my first day of my 3 week spring break and this evening I will be departing for the Czech Republic! On an overnight bus ride…that will take 15 hours. Ugh.

But then we arrive in Prague! I’m so excited to be going on this study tour since Prague was high on my list of places to go but I hadn’t gotten around to it yet. Our tour leaders have planned a lot of really cool things so even the “academic” visits seem interesting. We also will be headed to Kunta Hora to see the bone church! This place is decorated entirely with bones that came from around 40,000 plague victims. We also have a stop in Budejovice which is the Czech name for what was once German Budweis, and resulted in the naming of the famous Budweiser beer (a sort of stolen name ala Beerfest?). Are second main city is Cesky Krumlov where we will be for two days. It’s smaller and more medieval and we’re seeing some crazy things while there that I’ll tell you about later.

After this week of study tour I’m coming back to CPH (via the terrible bus again) and my boyfriend is coming for the week. I’m glad someone from home has been able to come to see me because it’s important to me for someone to have seen where I lived for 9 months. Plus we can do a bunch of things I’ve wanted to do but was always too busy with classes. Also, the weather is getting nicer so it won’t require walking around in freezing temperatures. (And also I’m sending him home with a bunch of the crap I’ve collected since being here).

For the 3rd week I’m meeting up with my friend from VERNON. She’s studying in Montpelier, France for the summer and her break starts this time. It will be fun to see her and travel since we only see each other on college breaks as it is. First stop is Amsterdam, which looks so beautiful in all the pictures I’ve seen. Next we’re training it to Belgium to visit Brussels (and visit Lucia, YAY!) and Bruges. Both places I’ve heard are cool and I haven’t been to either so I’m looking forward to it.

I’ll be back late on April 10th and since it’s Easter time will probably celebrate this somehow with my host family. Then on the 14th classes restart! I can already tell from my calendar that those last few weeks will be hell. I have a lot of assignments due and 2 weekend trips! One weekend I’m going with my Holocaust and Genocide class to the Neuengamme concentration camp in Hamburg, Germany. Then the first weekend in May I’ll be going on a weekend trip to Bornholm, where my Danish roots trace back to!! It’s an island between Denmark and Sweden where we are going to have to bike all over and take a ferry back and forth to.

Then once I’m back from that I will have practically no time left. For finals I only have 2 official tests during Finals week, which frees up some time to do last minute things and pack up. Then I’ll be coming back to the States on May 19th! (59 days? SO SOON!)

I’ll blog after Czech Republic if I get a chance! ☺

i have a question for you if you don't mind. my college goes specifically through DIS and doesn't offer abroad programs in England (where I've wanted to study since I was little). Have you ever been to England? If so, what are the perks of being in Denmark versus England? And any other information you have would be helpful. Thanks! :D
