My Days Blur Together

I haven't updated in a few days and am already getting complaints from people back home so since I have some time free time now I'll fill everyone in.

I had my 2nd set of class on Friday and again they all seem pretty interesting and should be a lot of fun. Two of them are actually rather art history oriented which is new to me but they are something that I'm sure I will enjoy. It actually turns out that I have the same professor for both of these classes and he will be leading the optional Italy tour I'm signed up for so he clearly knows what he's teaching and will be a really interesting source. My other class is Human Trafficking in Europe which I'm also looking forward to since there isn't really a course offered like this at AU. Oh and also my Danish class...we'll see how successful that is.

Friday night was the DIS welcome party held at Luux, a pretty classy club that they had rented for the first two hours and then it opened up to the public. It was fun and I hung out with some people I knew from classes but overall not a whole lot different from other clubs I've been to aside from being of legal age to drink. After this a few of my friends and I went to a bar sort of near the school and shared 10 shots for 100kroner. To be honest I have no idea what type of Danish alcohol we were given just something rather minty and probably with many consonants in its name. Afterwards, I went back to one friend's place and had some pizza..not terribe considering its Denmark but apparently pizza here is of the Turkish variety and not the Italian. Basically this means they throw a lot of things on top of it. I actually had some more of this again on Saturday with my host mother when we ordered some in town. I got one with onion, bacon, meat, and egg (what?) and her's was with curry and chicken which was also different. Honesty, as much as people joked that the food would be terrible--all fish and rye bread--everything I've been eating has been pretty good and not too much has frightened me away. haha

After Friday night in CPH, I decided to stay at a friends so that I wouldn't have to go all the way home (an hour away) just to come back early the next morning for 2 walking tours that I'd signed up for (looking back this wasn't the smartest plan but o well). Because it was after 12am we had to take the nightbus back to her house. The nightbus is not something I am very pleased with. We ended up getting off at the wrong stop, whether too early or too late is anybody's guess, and had to walk around the suburbs of cph for a while in order to find our way right. This has made me realize a few things. 1- it gets cold at night, if you forsee yourself getting lost remember a jacket or risk hypothermia 2- look up nightbus schedules and stops on your own even if your friend claims to know (but has only been here a few days) 3-my resources are that much more limited here in DK then they ever were in the US. Yes, I have a phone but do I have a copious amount of numbers to call if I'm bored/lost/need someone to look up something? No, not so much and those numbers I do have are mostly other DIS students which just as little a clue about things as me. This has only further spurred me to go out and explore the area around DIS and the city by myself in my free time and to be a little more self reliant. So far this has led me to locating Tiger-a crazy dollar store type place with many odd things and to find the bakery and cheap Italian resturant we were shown to during orientation but I'd forgotten their location. It's entertaining to go wandering and find something you didn't know the location of before.

On Saturday, I went on two walking tours around the city in hopes of giving me some places to investigate on my own and little background knowledge. The first highlighted the lesser-known and more urban areas and the 2nd took us around to the many famous places tied to H.C. Andersen. Both gave me different aspects of the city to take in and I have some pictures I'll post later when I'm back home.

Sunday I woke up with a cold (my host mother says I am not yet used to the germs here haha) and sort of hung around and did some homework. We then went to her daughter's for dinner where we had a more thorough Danish meal that had 3 courses. The first was some sort of salmon-cream cheese apiteizer type thing. The 2nd was the main one with meat, potatos, salad, and vegetables. The last was dessert (yay!) and was a sort of trifle thing with rubarb. I really liked and must learn to make it (of course).

After my two classes today, I had a meeting with the head of the work study program and I've been assigned to the housing dept. which I'm pretty sure means just doing paperwork and that sort of busy work which is fine and easy enough. Later at 7pm I'm meeting up with the rest of my Survival Danish class from orientation to go to dinner at a cafe that we have to find our way to ourselves. I think we are expected to order our own drink. I believe the phrase is "Jeg vil gerne have....." However, it sounds something like "Yii vil gerna ha." Have I mentioned that Danish is complicated?

Ok well I've got to head out soon to the cafe. More to come!

also ignore my spelling errors...this computer is wierd and not correcting me and also has a foreign keyboard...
